24-well drilling program for shale oil begins in Diyarbakır and Batman

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that, within the scope of Turkey's energy vision, exploration activities for shale gas and shale oil using unconventional methods have commenced in Diyarbakır and Batman.

Minister Bayraktar stated that the project, carried out using the horizontal drilling method, is expected to yield its first results towards the end of the year. The goal is to complete horizontal drilling operations in 2027 and to open a total of 24 wells by 2028.

Assessment: Minister Bayraktar expressed that if the project succeeds, it could have a 'game-changing' effect on Turkey's oil operations and that there is high reserve potential in the region.
