International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez announced that approximately 6,000 sailors are trapped due to increasing attacks on commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz and a dual blockade. A warning was issued against transiting the strait until security guarantees are provided in the region.

International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez stated that approximately 6,000 sailors have been trapped in the region since the beginning of the conflicts, and the situation remains serious and critical. It was reported that 24 vessels have been attacked along the waterway over a period of approximately two weeks.

Following these developments, Iran sent a letter claiming that the U.S. military threatened Iranian crew members in the Persian Gulf by using the international emergency radio channel. Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command defended that the naval blockade against Iranian ports was conducted within the framework of professional communication rules. According to IMO data, as of October 9, 100 verified maritime incidents were recorded in the region, while 24 sailors have lost their lives since the conflicts began on February 28.
