On October 20, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung met with ministries and agencies at the Government Office to evaluate the progress of strategic technology development tasks and announced the approval of 17 strategic technology tasks.

The Ministry of Science and Technology completed the evaluation of all 29 proposals submitted in the first phase and published a report for each. Among these proposals, 23 were deemed eligible for approval, while 6 were considered ineligible. Out of the 23 eligible tasks, 17 have been approved by the relevant agencies, 3 have not yet reached the approval stage, 2 were decided not to be implemented at this stage, and the approval process for 1 task belonging to the Ministry of National Defense is being concluded following the receipt of the evaluation report.

The total proposed budget for the 17 approved tasks exceeds 2.319 trillion VND, with approximately 800.7 billion VND—or 34.5 percent—sourced from non-state budget resources. Covering fields such as satellites, chips, unmanned aerial vehicles, railways, healthcare, livestock farming, robotics, and artificial intelligence, these projects aim to reduce dependence on imported technology and equipment. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung instructed that the remaining tasks be completed by October 2026, funding be secured, and the approved projects be rapidly implemented.
