Age verification fraud warning from the Chamber of Computer Engineers
The Chamber of Computer Engineers warned users against fraudsters using the age verification regulation coming into effect on November 1 as an excuse, urging precautions against fake links.
The Chamber of Computer Engineers warned users against attempted fraud, citing the age verification regulation that will take effect in Turkey on November 1, and urged the public to disregard messages directing them to fake websites.
The Chamber of Computer Engineers issued a warning to exercise caution regarding messages concerning age verification, drawing attention to an announcement by the General Directorate of Security, Department of Cyber Crimes. It was recalled that the regulation taking effect on November 1 aims to prevent children under the age of 15 from opening accounts and to impose restrictions on the 15-17 age group, with the transition period ending on March 31, 2027.
The Chamber emphasized that messages such as "Verify your age immediately" or "Your account will be closed" may be intended to capture personal information and passwords. While noting that users in the TRNC could also be targeted via SMS and social media, it was advised not to click on links, to type addresses manually into the browser, and in suspicious cases, to change passwords and contact banks.
