AI Agents' Risk on Bank Deposits Outpaces Stablecoins
Bloomberg columnist Andy Mukherjee argues that artificial intelligence agents pose a greater threat to traditional bank deposits than stablecoins. Following the US Genius Act, the risk previously created by stablecoins is being replaced by AI technologies that possess a much more complex structure.
According to an evaluation by Bloomberg columnist Andy Mukherjee, AI agents pose a more serious risk to the traditional banking system than stablecoins. Stablecoins, which gained legitimacy last year with the US Genius Act, were expected to exert pressure on the $19 trillion deposit volume in the US and the $14.5 trillion deposit volume in overseas banks. However, Mukherjee suggests that the defense mechanisms developed by banks against stablecoins may prove inadequate against the complexity of AI agents.
Evaluation: The author states that while banks have succeeded in combating crypto assets, managing AI agents will be much more difficult. The effort of stablecoins to establish a presence in the market as digital copies of the dollar had triggered concerns over deposit outflows in the banking sector. Meanwhile, the capacity of AI agents to autonomously manage financial transactions could expose the traditional deposit structure to a more profound transformation.
