Police reportedly pulling motorists over because AI algorithms deem their driving patterns 'suspicious' — rights group report warns AI surveillance systems will sweep in more innocent people than wrongdoers

According to a report published on October 26 by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), police officers are increasingly using AI-powered justifications to pull over drivers.

Based on information attributed to Jay Stanley, senior policy analyst with the ACLU Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project, police are flagging and pulling over drivers whose travel histories are deemed suspicious by AI algorithms and automated license plate reader (ALPR) surveillance data, even in the absence of evidence of any rule violations.
