A new graduate certificate program focusing on artificial intelligence and law has been launched through a collaboration between the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and Penn Engineering.

The University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and Penn Engineering have developed a joint Graduate Certificate in Study in artificial intelligence and law. The program will be open to all Penn Carey Law students in their first year, while full-time master's students within Penn Engineering will be able to join the program starting from their second year.

Students targeting the certificate program are required to complete five courses in the general field of artificial intelligence and law, and participate in four AI-related events such as workshops, lectures, or pedagogy seminars.

Amanda Aronoff, Managing Director of Interdisciplinary Programs at Penn Carey Law, stated that one of the advantages of the law school's interdisciplinary curriculum is providing flexibility in collaboration with graduate schools across Penn. Aronoff expressed excitement about meeting the increased demand for interdisciplinary opportunities as artificial intelligence gains importance in legal practice.

This certificate stands out as the first step in the growing partnership focused on artificial intelligence and law between Penn Carey Law and Penn Engineering. Future plans include a reciprocal certificate path and joint degree programs that will allow law and engineering students to follow a shared curriculum.
