Akai is embracing vibe-coded mods with an open-source MPC

Akai is preparing to embrace the modding community by offering open-source software and a software development kit (SDK) for the unannounced MPC Sample Key and standard MPC Sample models.

The MPC Sample Key, which has not yet been officially introduced, is hosting projects from the modding community as Akai provides early access to developers. While drawing attention with its open-source software infrastructure, the device will run a version of the standard MPC Sample software adapted to traditional components such as a keyboard, tuning, and modulation wheels. Unlike the higher-end MPC Key 37 model, the keyboard lacks pads, and samples are played directly through the keys.

Short videos released feature various modifications adding virtual analog and FM synthesizers with Native Instruments Massive, as well as systems running a completely custom operating system. While it is stated that the same community features will also come to the standard MPC Sample model, inMusic brands and CEO Jack O'Donnell are said to aim to support the modding community by providing early device support to developers.
