Timur Gök stated that the proposal for a 5 percent member threshold in the service branch would undermine trade union pluralism and obstruct the will of the employees.
Timur Gök, Chairman of the All Healthcare Employees Union, reacted to the proposal by some civil servant confederations for a 5 percent member threshold in the service branch, stating that such financial and administrative obstacles would undermine trade union pluralism and the free will of employees.
Concern Over the 5 Percent Member Threshold Proposal
Timur Gök, Chairman of the All Healthcare Employees Union, announced that they are following with concern the regulatory demands by some civil servant confederations that union dues should be deducted from salaries only for members of unions with a 5 percent membership rate in their service branch.
Trade Union Organization and Free Will
Emphasizing that the issue is directly related to public employees being able to freely exercise their trade union preferences, Gök noted that placing new thresholds in front of organization carries the risk of damaging the understanding of democratic unionism.
Representative Power of Major Confederations
Pointing out that, according to recent statistics, approximately 69.3 percent of public employees in Turkey are members of Memur-Sen and Türkiye Kamu-Sen, it was recalled that these two structures possess significant representative power in the trade union field.
Representative Power and Concrete Gains
Gök stated that the structures with a broad membership base presenting the high number of unions as an obstacle to solutions should be questioned, and expressed that the existence of other unions cannot be an excuse for failing to defend the rights of employees.
