The role of social media platforms has become a subject of debate in the ongoing presidential elections in Brazil. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva claimed that Meta is supporting opposition candidate Flávio Bolsonaro through artificial intelligence restrictions and algorithms.

In the first round of the elections, Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, received 47 percent of the votes, while incumbent president Lula da Silva gathered 45 percent. The digital rights advocacy group Ekō also published a report claiming that Meta provided an advantage to Bolsonaro's campaign.
