An Exhibition Bringing Istanbul and Athens Together by Greek Artist Antonis Donef
Greek artist Antonis Donef stated that he was inspired by the past-preserving structure of Ottoman culture in his exhibition titled The Two Sides of Time, opened at Portakal Art and Culture House.
Creating his works with old materials, Greek artist Antonis Donef has brought his exhibition titled “The Two Sides of Time” to art enthusiasts at the Portakal Art and Culture House. Stating that the way Ottoman culture treats artifacts aligns with his own artistic approach, Donef highlights the cultural ties between Istanbul and Athens in the exhibition.
Producing works through old books, pieces of paper, archival documents, and maps, Antonis Donef stated that Ottoman culture thinks in layers and keeps everything together without erasing what already exists when forming a new structure. Conveying that the old bookstores located in Istanbul's Balat district inspired him, the artist noted that papers coming from Athens and Istanbul harmonize with each other in the exhibition.
The exhibition “The Two Sides of Time,” which builds a bridge between Athens and Istanbul, can be visited until October 28.
