The annual &hacksXII hackathon held at William & Mary brought together students, alumni, and academics under the theme of artificial intelligence and imagination, resulting in the development of 34 projects.
The annual &hacksXII hackathon, held on September 26-27 at the Integrated Science Center 4 at William & Mary, brought together participants from diverse disciplines.
According to information on the website of William & Mary's School of Computing, Data Sciences, and Physics, the event held with the theme "Artificial Intelligence and Imagination" aimed to move beyond traditional uses of technology. In the competition, which saw participation from students across various fields such as business, computer science, social sciences, and linguistics, a total of 34 interdisciplinary projects were developed, ranging from health sciences to interactive English learning games.
Student organizers Lynn Egan and Libby Knight stated that one of their primary goals was to demonstrate that artificial intelligence is not merely a tool that generates content. Among the standout projects in the competition was Etymogle, a daily etymology-based word-guessing game developed by Bennett Matuszewski, which was awarded second place overall.
