Apple has officially announced the new 2026 model, transitioning to an OLED screen in the iPad mini series and powered by the A20 Pro chipset. The device is now available for pre-order with a redesigned look, storage-based processor variations in its technical specifications, and advanced connectivity options.

OLED Display and Design Innovations

The new iPad mini features an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display panel for the first time in the series. With a resolution of 2,316 x 1,512 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate, the screen offers a peak brightness of 1,200 nits and can be configured with an optional nano-texture glass option. The device's thickness has been reduced to 5.4 mm and its weight to 255 grams. Available in Midnight and Starlight color options, the model includes IP67 water and dust resistance certification for the first time in the series.

A20 Pro Chip and Storage Differences

The device's performance is driven by Apple's A20 Pro chipset. However, Apple has made a distinction in processor performance based on storage capacities. The 128GB and 256GB models come with a five-core trimmed CPU lacking one efficiency core, while offering half the NPU power. The 512GB model is equipped with a full-performance six-core CPU and full-power NPU.

Audio Technology and Connectivity Features

Apple has moved the dual speaker system under the display, transitioning to an Acoustic Display setup. While the system delivers stronger bass and higher volume, custom tweeters ensure clear trebles. The device includes Wi-Fi 7 and eSIM-supported 5G connectivity features, alongside a landscape-positioned 12MP Center Stage camera. The 18.9Wh battery can charge to 50 percent in 30 minutes with a 35W or higher adapter. Pre-orders begin on October 28, with initial deliveries taking place on November 6.
