Arkansas State University has received federal financial support to enhance advanced manufacturing capabilities with artificial intelligence within its Center for Advanced Materials and Steel Manufacturing.

Federal Financial Resources Secured

Arkansas State University has been awarded a $2.1 million federal grant to expand its artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

This funding was allocated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Role of the Center and Project Team

The project is being led by Dr. Robert Drew Fleming, associate professor of mechanical engineering, within the Center for Advanced Materials and Steel Manufacturing.

Dr. Yeonsang Hwang, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, and Dr. Mohammadreza Daroonparvar are serving as co-principal investigators on the study.

Infrastructure and Technological Equipment

With the provided funding, the university's research infrastructure will be strengthened to support the region's growing steel production sector.

As part of the project, a GPU-accelerated high-performance computing cluster, a Gleeble 3800 thermomechanical simulator, and Thermo-Calc software libraries will be procured.

Regional Industrial and Educational Contributions

This initiative aims to support the steel industry in northeast Arkansas and foster industrial partnerships.

Additionally, the project will contribute to the development of a qualified workforce by providing students with hands-on experience.
