During an attempted attack at a school in Oregon, after a teacher struggled with the suspect, an armed father who arrived at the scene shot and killed the attacker. Police and officials stated that the intervention prevented further loss of life.

Police teams reported that a legally licensed .40 caliber handgun was found in the suspect's vehicle. The suspect's brother took the gun, entered the school following the suspect, and, according to police accounts, fired several shots at the suspect, killing him.

Kenda Freeman, the mother of the suspect living in Sacramento state, stated in an interview with a local CBS affiliate that her son called her immediately after the incident and was deeply traumatized. Freeman conveyed that her son said a man had entered his daughter's school and was shooting children, and when face-to-face with him, he fired and killed the assailant. The mother noted she told him he saved many lives, and her son replied, "I couldn't save all of them."

United States President Donald Trump praised the citizen who intervened in the incident during remarks on Friday. Stating that the situation could have been much worse and that it was a horrific event, Trump said people should be grateful for the presence of a man who carried a gun and knew how to use it. Meanwhile, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek acknowledged that the heroic actions of this unnamed individual halted further loss of life, while pointing out that such situations carry a heavy emotional burden.
