Art teacher arrested in Balıkesir due to social media post

A middle school art teacher, against whom judicial proceedings were initiated due to posts made on social media platforms in the Edremit district of Balıkesir, has been arrested by the court.

During virtual patrol activities on social media by the teams of the Edremit Security Bureau Directorate under the Balıkesir Provincial Police Department, a post made on Instagram under the username "BARYEK" was evaluated to contain criminal elements. Upon concluding that the post could constitute the crimes of "Insulting the Sovereignty Signs of the State" and "Opposition to the Law on Crimes Committed Against Atatürk," the Public Prosecutor was informed.

As a result of the procedures initiated upon the instructions of the prosecutor's office, it was determined that the account belonged to 48-year-old Ferdi Çıbuk, who works as an art teacher at the 75th Year Secondary School affiliated with the Edremit District National Education Directorate. During the search conducted at the suspect's home, a mobile phone and a laptop were seized for examination. Having been referred to the court after police and prosecutor's office procedures, Çıbuk was arrested and sent to prison.
