Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Education Discussed at Darden School of Business
Leaders at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business evaluated artificial intelligence integration and the future of MBA programs in a webinar.
Yael Grushka-Cockayne, dean of the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, and Willie Green, senior assistant dean of admissions, discussed the school's preparation processes for the changing business world, artificial intelligence, and the return on investment for MBAs.
Webinar and Participant Profile
The online event organized by the Darden School of Business brought together numerous candidates from around the world.
The meeting was held with the participation of a total of 673 registered candidates from 62 different countries, providing guidance to future students.
Leadership Change and Priorities
Yael Grushka-Cockayne assumed office in August to become the school's tenth dean, aiming to listen to the voices of stakeholders during her first term.
The new dean aims to maintain the current momentum while consciously training students regarding the potential and limitations of artificial intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence and the Case Method
While the case study method is preserved in classes, artificial intelligence tools have also begun to be integrated into the educational process.
Thanks to these tools, students can interact with simulated historical figures and stakeholders prior to class discussions.
Competencies Beyond Technology
The leaders emphasized that students should carefully audit artificial intelligence outputs rather than accepting them blindly.
The importance of human capabilities such as empathy, critical reasoning, and decision-making in moments of uncertainty against technology was insistently defended.
Curriculum and Institute Studies
More than twenty-five elective courses focusing on artificial intelligence and data analytics are offered to students within the school.
Additionally, with the establishment of the LaCross Institute for Ethical Artificial Intelligence in Business, the ethical dimensions of technology are examined in depth.
MBA Return on Investment
Considering increasing education costs, the financial and career returns of an MBA degree were put on the table.
It was stated that students should focus not only on immediate career outcomes but also on the long-term gains of the education.
