Gray Paint Has Never Had It as Good as in the A.I. Boom

The increase in investments directed toward artificial intelligence infrastructures has triggered sales of specialized industrial coatings used in data centers. While technology companies are turning to grey paints to protect concrete and steel structures against fire, rust, and static electricity, industry representatives anticipate that growth in this area will outpace other infrastructure markets.

Pittsburgh-based PPG announced that it expects sales of protective coatings for data centers to triple this year. The company's product named Steelguard 951 expands in the event of a fire, forming a layer on steel surfaces that provides protection for up to four hours. Meanwhile, Sherwin-Williams recorded a sales increase of approximately 15 percent in its protective and marine business segments, driven by the rise in data center constructions.

Despite this rapid growth in the sector, data center projects are facing certain obstacles. While delays occur in projects due to electrical equipment shortages and energy supply issues, objections from local communities regarding new data center constructions also rank among the challenges facing the sector.
