ASEAN Sets 2035 Targets for Science and Technology Cooperation
Vietnam hosted the first meetings of ASEAN's five specialized sub-committees in Da Nang for the 2026-2035 period.
Vietnam has begun hosting the first meetings of ASEAN's five specialized sub-committees within the framework of a new structure promoting cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
First Meetings Held in Da Nang
Gathering in Da Nang on October 13, the five specialized sub-committees of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation held their inaugural meetings under the new structure.
This significant gathering served as the starting step for activities within the scope of the 90th COSTI Conference, hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology.
Restructuring and Sub-Committees
Along with a comprehensive restructuring process, the number of sub-committees was reduced from nine to five, transitioning to a more focused working structure.
The five specialized sub-committees in the new arrangement were determined as Science, Technology, and Innovation Ecosystem, Advanced and Emerging Technologies, Biotechnology and Food Science, Materials and Energy Technology, and Earth, Ocean, and Space Sciences.
Strategic Areas and Focal Points
During the meetings, critical strategic topics such as human resource development, research infrastructure, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, semiconductors, and biotechnology were discussed.
Additionally, issues such as food security, clean energy, new materials, meteorology, oceanography, and space technology were among the main focal points of the roadmap to be followed until 2035.
