Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced AWS Agent Registry, a new managed service that enables the runtime cataloging and discovery of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, agents, and agent capabilities.

The runtime discovery feature helps solve a major problem hidden within artificial intelligence agent demos. While hardcoded tools work smoothly with a small number of components, they begin to break down when reaching dozens of limits and become unmanageable beyond that number. Enterprise systems offer hundreds of internal APIs for pricing, support, orders, inventory, and customer data.

Publishers can register protocol-specific identifiers and searchable descriptions. At runtime, an orchestrator can search approved and discoverable registries and instantiate a client using the returned endpoint and identifier content. It is noted that the registry search results do not return the capability's invocation credentials or authentication schema.
