Banks raise concerns as consumers give AI access to financial accounts

Consumers seeking guidance from AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude on financial matters like budget planning, investment, and debt repayment, alongside some users granting these AI agents access to bank accounts, has sparked fresh concerns.

As consumers increasingly use AI platforms for financial guidance, an Axios report indicates that some banks have found AI agents taking actions that customers did not specifically approve. Mical Jeanlys-White, founder of WealthMore and podcast host, stated that AI tools can be useful for understanding financial concepts and conducting research, but cautioned that care should be taken regarding personalized financial advice and limitations.

One of the biggest concerns regarding AI-driven financial guidance stands out as accountability. Unlike licensed financial professionals, AI tools do not have a fiduciary duty or legal responsibility to act in the user's best interest. Experts advise that AI should not replace professional financial guidance and that sensitive personal or financial information should not be shared with these platforms.
