A black bear entered the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Public Library in California, consumed snacks in the staff breakroom, wandered around the library, and then left on its own.

A black bear entered the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Public Library in California on Wednesday at around 6:10 a.m., more than four hours before the library's opening time of 10:00 a.m. According to Library Director Josef Bopp, who spoke to a local media outlet, the bear ate peanut butter, peach cups, cookies, and a jar of honey from the staff's snack supply.

The bear later wandered around the new releases section and the reference desk before leaving on its own. The Mono County Office of Education released a statement containing security camera footage showing the bear roaming the library hallways, sniffing books, a chair, and the floor. Officials reminded the public that black bears are wild animals and warned that they should never be approached or fed.
