In a war casualty exchange operation between Ukraine and Russia, Ukraine received the lifeless bodies of 252 people, while the Russian side received 25 bodies.

Ukrainian authorities announced on Thursday that the remains of 252 people were brought back to the country as part of a war casualty exchange with Russia. Russian lawmaker Shamsail Saraliev told the RBC news agency that Russia received 25 bodies in return. The exchange of prisoners of war and deceased soldiers remains one of the rare areas of cooperation between the warring parties.

Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War stated that the remains of 252 deceased individuals were returned to Ukraine as a result of humanitarian efforts. It was noted that police and other officials will carry out all necessary procedures for the identification of the returned bodies, while gratitude was expressed to the International Committee of the Red Cross for facilitating the process. The I Want to Live project, affiliated with Ukraine's Intelligence Directorate, noted that the returned Russian military remains also included a Sri Lankan citizen who fought in the Russian army.
