Bombay High Court Stays Deportation Order for Actor Imran Khan
The visa violation case of Bollywood actor Imran Khan, who faces deportation for allegedly participating in a protest in India, has been postponed by the court until November 2.
The Bombay High Court has suspended the Indian government's deportation order against Bollywood actor Imran Khan until November 2. The 43-year-old U.S. citizen was accused of violating visa rules by participating in a protest in Mumbai.
The government had demanded that Khan leave the country by October 28. However, the actor's lawyers argued that there was no evidence of their client participating in or organizing the protest, calling the decision unconstitutional and arbitrary. Khan's partner, Lekha Washington, stated that they had only gone to the protest site to get information about a detained friend.
The court postponed the hearing to November 2 due to technical reasons and ruled that the deportation order should not be enforced until that date. The Mumbai Police has not yet made an official statement regarding the matter.
