It was determined that some charging guns at BYD Megawatt Flash Charger fast charging stations were locked with metal chains, preventing electric vehicle users from utilizing the chargers. Following user complaints, BYD announced that it will take strict measures against the misuse of the Flash Charging network.

Images shared on Chinese social media showed that two charging ports on the new BYD Megawatt Flash Charger were tightly bound together with a metal chain. While this prevented electric vehicle owners from using the charger normally, it was noted that the chain could also damage the vehicle's body. The footage recorded that the charging station was undamaged, its screen was working properly, and green lights were illuminated at the connection ports.

Following the incident, some internet users blamed rival automakers, although these claims have no basis. As an assessment, a more plausible reason is considered to be that small and independent fast-charging station operators might be disturbed by BYD's network expansion. While a significant portion of the charging network in China operates on a franchise model, DC fast charging technology operates with extremely low profit margins.

BYD announced that it would improve the fast charging experience by strengthening management and penalizing abuses. In a session held via WeChat, the company committed to preventing internal combustion engine vehicles from occupying charging parking spaces. It was reminded that the "Traffic Police 12123" application can be used to report illegally parked vehicles in China.
