Chinese AI Lab DeepSeek Secures $15 Billion Investment
Shortly after U.S. technology restrictions, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek completed a massive funding round totaling approximately $15 billion.
Just two days after U.S. federal civilian agencies ordered the removal of DeepSeek's artificial intelligence technology from their systems due to security concerns, the Chinese AI laboratory secured approximately $15 billion (about 100 billion yuan) in funding, according to a Bloomberg report.
According to Bloomberg's report, potential investors include Chinese battery manufacturer CATL and WeChat owner Tencent. This investment round follows DeepSeek raising over $7 billion at a $50 billion valuation in June. Despite facing restrictions in the U.S., the Hangzhou-based AI startup is increasing its spending on infrastructure and open models.
