The Chinese Communist Party opened a four-day closed-door meeting in Beijing on Monday with the participation of senior officials. Known as the fifth plenary session (plenum), the gathering aims to tighten discipline, ensure officials implement Beijing's directives, and advance President Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign.

The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party convened for closed-door sessions running from Monday through Thursday. Being the fifth such meeting held since the current cohort was formed in 2022, it is regarded as the last major party gathering before the leadership transition expected next year, which is projected to extend Xi Jinping's rule for another five years.

According to state agency Xinhua, President Xi Jinping presented a draft document at the meeting focusing on intra-party discipline and self-governance. The document addresses goals such as enhancing party capacity, avoiding arrogance, and combating corruption, while emphasizing that the Central Committee's decisions must not remain empty rhetoric.
