CHP's Erbay Strongly Criticizes Ministry of Health's Service Statement
CHP Deputy Chairman Ali Rıza Erbay opposed Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu's statements, criticizing the state of the healthcare system through OECD data and increasing out-of-pocket expenses.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Responsible for Health Policies Ali Rıza Erbay criticized Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu's remarks that "we are one of the countries offering the best healthcare services in the world," emphasizing that health is a fundamental human right.
Assessments on the Healthcare System
Stating that health is not a matter of propaganda but carries a public responsibility, CHP Deputy Chairman Ali Rıza Erbay argued that the real goal should not be merely establishing large hospitals.
Noting that despite developments in infrastructure, this is not fully reflected in the health of citizens, Erbay expressed that the success of the system should be addressed with different criteria.
Comparative Table with OECD Data
Stating that the data in the OECD's Health at a Glance 2025 report clearly shows the aspect of the situation, Erbay drew attention to the significant differences between Turkey and OECD averages.
According to the report, life expectancy, preventable mortality rates, and the number of physicians and nurses in Turkey fall behind international averages.
Citizens' Out-of-Pocket Expenses
Referring to Turkish Statistical Institute data, Erbay stated that citizens' out-of-pocket health expenditures reached 442.4 billion liras in 2024.
The low proportion of those stating they are satisfied with the availability of quality healthcare services was also emphasized as another indicator of disruptions in the system.
