CIA Deputy Director Michael Ellis evaluated strategic balances between the US and China and the role of artificial intelligence in international conflicts during a private event held in Dartmouth.
High Turnout at the Dartmouth Event
Approximately 160 people attended the panel, which was jointly organized by the Davidson Institute for Global Security and the Federalist Society. The event was moderated by government professor and Davidson Institute faculty director Daryl Press.
US and China Relations Discussed
The panel first addressed current relations between the US and China. Michael Ellis emphasized that past foreign policy approaches were fundamentally flawed because China did not politically liberalize.
Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Global Security
Ellis stated that the US and China must maintain open communication lines on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. Attention was drawn to the power of artificial intelligence in international conflicts, and automation capabilities were discussed.
CIA and Artificial Intelligence Technologies
Recalling that they published the first intelligence report generated entirely by artificial intelligence in April, Ellis stated that artificial intelligence does not replace human work but also brings security risks.
