Violent incidents broke out during nationwide demonstrations in France held over rising living costs and in support of high school student protests. Police intervened with tear gas and water cannons, and at least 272 people were detained across the country.
Ministry of Interior officials drew attention to the mounting violence across the country. The CGT union supported the demonstrations, demanding higher wages, lower prices, and the protection of public services, announcing that 500,000 people participated in the action. Far-left politician Jean-Luc Mélenchon also joined the protest in Paris. Meanwhile, following a police intervention that resulted in a young demonstrator losing a hand, the Ministry of Interior suspended the use of a police stun grenade.
