The KTMMOB Chamber of Computer Engineers has warned internet users in northern Cyprus against fraudsters taking advantage of the social media age verification regulation in Turkey, urging caution against fake messages. In a statement signed by Chamber President Esat Gürhan, the warning issued on October 27 by the Cyber Crime Department of the Turkish General Directorate of Security, SİBERAY, was recalled.

It was stated that fraudsters direct individuals to fake websites using messages such as "Verify your age immediately," "Your account will be closed today," and "Click the link to complete the process." It was noted that passwords, SMS verification codes, personal information, and bank card details are attempted to be captured through this method. It was conveyed that the regulation in Turkey is not directly in force, but Turkish-language messages can target users, claims that accounts will be closed on November 1 do not reflect the truth, and the transition period lasts until March 31, 2027.

Users were advised not to log into their accounts via links in messages and to use official sites by typing them into the browser. In the event of sharing information, it was requested to change the password, close sessions, and enable two-step verification. The Chamber of Computer Engineers also called for a joint warning to the Information Technologies and Communication Authority, the Police General Directorate, internet service providers, GSM operators, and relevant ministries.
