DMM denies claims that Europe is dumping trash in Turkey

The Center for Countering Disinformation (DMM) announced that claims circulating in some media outlets and social media accounts that "Europe is dumping its garbage into Turkey" do not reflect the truth and contain severe manipulation.

The statement issued by the DMM emphasized that the entry of waste, hazardous substances, or non-recyclable garbage intended for disposal into Turkey is strictly prohibited. It was stated that the import of clean and source-separated wastes is only permitted on the condition that they are processed in licensed facilities to be used as raw material in industry.

The statement shared the information that shipments failing to meet standards are returned. Furthermore, it was expressed that bringing these claims to the agenda ahead of the COP31 Climate Summit is a malicious perception campaign.
