Former gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis has received a prison sentence of at least 40 years for orchestrating the fatal shooting of rap star Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas in 1996. This ruling in the nearly 30-year-unsolved case marks the first conviction in the trial.

Trial and Conviction Process

A jury found 63-year-old Duane "Keffe D" Davis guilty in September of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. Judge Carli Kierny announced the sentence after giving the defendant the opportunity to speak.

Prosecutors argued that while Davis did not pull the trigger himself, he was the leader of the group that carried out the attack. Davis stated that he would appeal the conviction.

Evidence and Memoirs

Key evidence in the case included Davis's own public statements, his remarks in a 2008 police interview, and his 2019 memoir titled Compton Street Legend.

The defendant's admissions in his memoir led to the invalidation of a previous agreement protecting him from prosecution, paving the way for the legal proceedings.

Family's Demands in Court

Tupac Shakur's siblings, Sekyiwa Shakur and Maurice Shakur, took the floor in court to demand the maximum possible sentence for the defendant.

This first conviction in the dark case, which has spanned nearly three decades, was recorded as a significant milestone in the victim's family's legal struggle.
