US-based e-commerce company eBay plans to lay off approximately 9% of its employees in order to streamline its operations and direct its resources to the fastest-growing business areas. Chief Executive Officer Jamie Iannone announced the layoff decision to employees, stating that this step is part of the plan to restructure strategic focus areas.

According to a company spokesperson's statement to Reuters, approximately 1,000 employees will be affected by this process. Having 12,300 employees at the end of last year, eBay had also laid off 800 people, corresponding to approximately 6% of its workforce, last February within the scope of restructuring efforts. It was conveyed that employees affected by the layoffs will be notified in the coming days.

On the other hand, the company follows a strategy of differentiating itself from its competitors by focusing on authenticated luxury goods, collectibles, and refurbished products. This approach, targeting consumers who prefer high-value products, contributed to the shares gaining approximately 40% in value since the beginning of the year. CEO Iannone emphasized in the note sent to employees that their strategies are working.
