A 42-year-old woman with a confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria was transferred from the capital, Abuja, to Switzerland for treatment on Monday. While the patient is believed to have contracted the virus in Uganda, Nigerian authorities have placed 62 contacts under surveillance.

Nigerian Minister of Health Muhammad Ali Pate stated that the patient's condition is stable, but the risk of transmission persists. It was noted that the evacuated individual is the spouse of an embassy employee stationed in Abuja.

Following this development, Uganda decided to tighten border controls. As part of the new measures, citizens returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will be subject to a mandatory 21-day quarantine, and transit passages through the DRC will be prohibited. The outbreak in the DRC continues to be the largest health crisis in the region, with nearly 10,000 cases and more than 4,700 deaths.
