Following rival company Anthropic's announcement that it would allocate a portion of its shares for the public good, Elon Musk promised to give a SpaceX share to every child in America. In a statement made on his X platform, Musk stated that next year he will give a SpaceX share to every child in America and that this will be the first of many steps.

According to Bloomberg data, the number of circulating shares of SpaceX is around 8.1 billion, and based on Friday's close, the share value is trading around 146 dollars. However, how such share donations will work and the details of the plan have not yet been clarified. Musk made this post after Anthropic announced its plan to transfer 5 percent of its shares to a fund to make public good donations. Anthropic stated that part of the fund would be dedicated to addressing the impacts of artificial intelligence on the labor market, while Musk responded to this statement by suggesting that the shares be given directly to the public.

Musk, the world's wealthiest person with a net worth exceeding 900 billion dollars according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, derives the majority of his wealth from his SpaceX shares valued at approximately 700 billion dollars. Musk has a history of coming up with unrealized ideas or making plans that he later described as jokes. Pinning his latest post regarding SpaceX shares to the top of his X page, Musk has not yet provided any further information regarding the implementation details of this promise.
