Elorian's New Model Glimpse Transforms Visual Reasoning Process
Palo Alto-based AI startup Elorian has introduced Glimpse, its first model capable of directly interacting with images and videos.
Palo Alto-based artificial intelligence startup Elorian has released Glimpse as a research preview to users after reaching a $300 million valuation with a $55 million seed investment prior to its product launch.
Visual Scratchpad Innovation
While many multimodal AI models convert images into tokens only once and evaluate them through text, Glimpse uses a different technology.
The model features a visual scratchpad that allows cropping a specific region of an image, capturing frames from videos, or running code to measure or compare elements during reasoning.
Development Process and Funding
Before its product launch, the startup secured notable investments from major backers including Striker Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Altimeter Capital, Nvidia, and Google chief scientist Jeff Dean.
The company managed to build its entire artificial intelligence model around this innovative visual approach using a small team and hundreds of graphics processing units.
Pricing and Performance Goals
A pricing policy of $0.60 per input token and $3 per output token has been established for the Glimpse model.
According to evaluations by Elorian, the model outperforms its competitors in scientific chart reasoning and short-form video captioning.
Target Sectors and Future Plans
The initial target audience for the model includes robotics companies, scientific laboratories, media organizations, and creative companies working with dense video data.
The startup's long-term plans include transitioning directly to robot control and building the world's leading visual reasoning models.
