Elvis Presley catalog owners sue Anthropic alleging copyright infringement

The rights holders of Elvis Presley's music catalog have initiated a copyright infringement lawsuit against AI company Anthropic in the San Francisco federal court. The plaintiffs claim that 274 iconic songs, including "All Shook Up" and "Can’t Help Falling in Love," were used without permission and free of charge to train the company's AI model named Claude.

In the lawsuit filed by Authentic Brands Group and other rights-holding organizations, it was argued that Anthropic built its business model on large-scale copyright infringements. The plaintiffs stated that the company was warned regarding access to copyrighted materials but continued this practice, demanding approximately 50 million dollars in damages as well as the coverage of court costs.

In a statement made by Anthropic on Sunday, the allegations were denied, and it was stated that the company will defend itself in court.
