Need for a Mindset Change

Ahmet Yaşar, President of the Insurance Association of Turkey, evaluated the current status and future of private health insurance in detail during his speech at the Global Health Congress. Yaşar stated that there is an urgent need for a very important mindset change in the sector.

In his statement, he underlined that the approach should shift toward an insurance understanding that directly supports healthy living rather than merely covering the costs of emerged diseases.

Transition to a Preventive Health Model

He stated that one of the most important areas of transformation for health insurance in the coming period will be the transition from a treatment-oriented approach to a protective and preventive health model.

Global Pressures and Demographic Structure

He noted that factors such as increasing life expectancy, aging populations, and the spread of chronic diseases worldwide create serious pressures on health financing. He pointed out that the proportion of the population aged 65 and over is also increasing in Turkey.

Complementary Health Insurance Data

Within the scope of the evaluations made, it was reported that the number of people under the coverage of complementary health insurance across Turkey reached approximately 5.8 million as of August 2026.
