Energy Conversion Project Wins First Place at TEKNOFEST 2026
The nuclear reactor-powered energy conversion project developed by Sinop University students won first place at TEKNOFEST 2026.
The "Energy Conversion Project," aimed at producing oxygen, drinking water, and electricity in submarines using nuclear reactor energy by Sinop University students, achieved first place in the TEKNOFEST 2026 Nuclear Energy Technologies Design Competition.
The project, prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Meryem Seferinoğlu, Head of the Nuclear Energy Engineering Department at Sinop University's Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, involved Nuclear Energy Engineering Department students Ahmet Selim Ulutürk, Durdu Talha Kanbak, Musa Can Pınaroğlu, and Eda Efe. Thanks to the developed system, it is aimed to eliminate the necessity for submarines to surface every 5-6 days to meet their water and oxygen needs, and to enable them to operate for approximately 10 years without refueling.
