European Diplomats Attacked in the Occupied West Bank
A delegation of European diplomats was attacked by masked settlers in the village of Taybeh near Ramallah; the incident drew international condemnation.
In the occupied West Bank, a European diplomatic delegation including diplomats from Belgium and France was attacked by masked Israeli settlers.
During the incident in the predominantly Christian village of Taybeh near Ramallah, diplomats from Belgium, France, Poland, and the Catholic Church had gone to the area to witness settlers' attacks on Palestinians during the olive harvest firsthand.
Footage showed masked settlers blocking the convoy and throwing stones, while a vehicle belonging to the Belgian consulate had its windows smashed and Bernard Baudoux, the mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries in France, was reported injured in the attack.
The attack sparked international condemnation, with Belgium and France expressing their outrage and demanding that Israel bring those responsible to justice. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) condemned the violence and announced an investigation had been launched, though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office suggested the incident could be part of a coordinated campaign to smear Israel.
