Europe's Future Regarding Ukraine Support Discussed as Aid Continues
While uncertainties in US support and political risks across Europe persist, EU leaders commit to continuing aid to Ukraine, yet face financing and electoral hurdles for 2027.
At a time when US support is waning and political risks are rising across Europe, EU leaders have pledged to maintain aid to Ukraine while facing funding challenges and upcoming electoral hurdles for the 2027 period.
At a summit at the European Council headquarters, EU leaders welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a standing ovation. European Council President Antonio Costa stated that there is no time to withdraw support for Ukraine and called for increased pressure on Russia. According to data from the Kiel Institute's Ukraine Support Tracker, from 2022 to April 2026, Europe provided 236 billion euros in support—including non-EU countries like the UK and Norway—while the US provided 115 billion euros in aid.
