The National Strategy for the Development of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, aims for all local health centers nationwide to acquire capacity in this field by 2030.

Approval of the National Strategy

Recently approved by the Prime Minister, the strategy encompasses targets for 2030 and a vision for 2045. Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra formalized this comprehensive plan by signing Decision No. 1976/QD-TTg dated October 13, 2026.

Prepared to make traditional medicine an essential part of the national healthcare system, this strategy aims to support medical examination, treatment, education, scientific research, and the development of the medicinal herb industry.

Commune and District Level Targets

Among the most notable targets of the strategy is that by 2030, all commune-level health centers will have sufficient capacity to provide traditional medicine services.

It is planned that at least one staff member in 90 percent of these centers will have received training in this field, and a traditional medicine doctor will serve in 20 percent of them. In addition, all district-level centers are projected to achieve the capacity to provide this service.

Hospital and Bed Capacity

Establishing traditional medicine hospitals across all provinces and cities nationwide is among the goals. Furthermore, 70 percent of these hospitals to be established are expected to have a capacity of at least 300 beds.
