As the 2026 World Series prepares to crown its first champion in history between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays, the opening game's starting pitcher matchup has been finalized. Milwaukee's 24-year-old Jacob Misiorowski and Tampa Bay's 36-year-old veteran Nick Martinez will face off in the opener.

Rays manager Kevin Cash opted for Nick Martinez over Drew Rasmussen for Friday's opening game. Logging 180 innings on the mound throughout the season, Martinez posted a 15-6 record with a 3.10 ERA, achieving the first All-Star selection of his career.

On the other side, Milwaukee's young talent Misiorowski topped Major League Baseball during the regular season with a 1.80 ERA, 252 strikeouts, and a 0.80 WHIP. The young pitcher had clocked a 104.8 mph pitch during the National League Division Series matchup against San Diego.
