Expert warning on e-cigarettes: The perception of harmlessness threatens lung health
Dr. Funda Karaduman Yalçın from Büyük Anadolu Samsun Hospital emphasized that e-cigarettes, which are becoming widespread among young people, carry serious health risks due to the chemicals and nicotine they contain, and that the perception of them being 'harmless' does not reflect reality.
Dr. Funda Karaduman Yalçın, Chest Diseases Specialist at Büyük Anadolu Samsun Hospital, stated that e-cigarettes, which have become popular especially among young people, are not as innocent as thought, drawing attention to the dangers these devices pose to lung health.
Dr. Funda Karaduman Yalçın stated that e-cigarettes are marketed as 'harmless' through colorful aromas and an image created on social media. Stating that the vapor produced by these devices is not just water vapor, Yalçın reminded that they contain nicotine, glycerin, propylene glycol, and various flavoring agents.
The expert noted that aerosols emerging from the heating of these substances can cause irritation, coughing, and inflammation in lung tissue. Emphasizing that even nicotine-free products are not completely risk-free, Yalçın underlined that the chemical structures formed during the heating process pose a serious threat to respiratory health.
