While spot silver in global markets has retreated to around $53.30, the U.S. Federal Reserve keeping its policy rate steady in the 3.75-4.00 percent range and uncertainties regarding the upcoming period continue to pressure silver prices. Investors' focus has turned to the U.S. PCE inflation data.

Silver prices in global markets are continuing their decline under the influence of the U.S. Federal Reserve's (Fed) interest rate policy and uncertainties regarding the period ahead. While spot silver has dropped below $53.50 to trade around $53.30, the precious metal is hovering near its lowest levels in the past year. Although the bank kept its policy rate steady in the 3.75-4.00 percent range, its limited guidance regarding future steps created a cautious outlook in the markets.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh reiterated his determination to ensure price stability and reduce inflation to the 2 percent target. Following Warsh's remarks stating that the economy maintains its strong outlook, investors began tracking signals regarding the future of interest rate policy. Expectations that interest rates may remain high create pressure on precious metals, which do not provide interest yields. The fact that high oil prices keep inflation concerns alive is also among the factors affecting interest rate expectations.

One of the main topics tracked by investors in the silver market was the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, closely monitored by the Fed. The inflation data to be announced in the U.S. is expected to shape expectations regarding the future of monetary policy. Meanwhile, as diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tension in the Middle East are also being monitored, according to TD Securities data, commodity advisors implementing systematic investment strategies have taken short positions in silver and turned toward base metals such as zinc and lead.
