Fenerbahçe fans call for İsmail Kartal's resignation after Slavia Prague match
Following Fenerbahçe's 2-2 draw with Slavia Prague after leading 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League, fans called on head coach İsmail Kartal to resign.
In Fenerbahçe, which drew 2-2 with Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League, post-match anger was directed at head coach İsmail Kartal. Yellow-navy blue fans chanted for the experienced coach to resign after conceding the equalizing goal in the 90th minute.
Fenerbahçe's national football player Oğuz Aydın scored the yellow-navy blue club's earliest goal in Champions League history with a shot from outside the penalty area in the 4th minute of the match, experiencing his first goal celebration in European competitions. Having taken a 2-0 lead, Fenerbahçe failed to maintain its superiority in the following minutes of the match and left the field with a 2-2 draw, missing out on victory due to the goal conceded in the 90th minute. With the final whistle of the match, İsmail Kartal went straight to the locker room without waiting for his players.
Making statements after the match, İsmail Kartal stated that they started the match very well, found a 2-0 lead, but were very sad about conceding a last-minute goal. Addressing the fans' chants for resignation at the press conference, Kartal said, "Today they shouted for resignation. I am sad too. I wish something like this hadn't happened, but it did. These things are part of football. Now we are looking ahead. We have very important matches. We will reconcile with our fans again with good results." Kartal conveyed that they will prepare for the Galatasaray match following this result.
