Flávio Bolsonaro Flees Brazil for the U.S. After Election Defeat

Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who suffered defeat against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the second round of the presidential election in Brazil, traveled to Miami, USA, via Argentina and Ecuador. Bolsonaro's departure from the country despite judicial investigations and an order to surrender his passport has sparked controversy.

Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who left the country after losing the presidential election in Brazil, defended his decision by stating he took it to protect his family and was acting against a political witch hunt. The Brazilian Supreme Court had instructed Bolsonaro to surrender his passports within 24 hours as part of ongoing money laundering investigations. However, Bolsonaro failed to surrender the documents within this timeframe, traveled by land to Argentina, and then reached Guayaquil, Ecuador, via a private jet, from where he proceeded to Miami.

While the US State Department confirmed that entry visas would be granted to Bolsonaro and his family, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva described the departure as shameful. Meanwhile, according to information obtained from the police, there is no official departure record, and it was also reported that Bolsonaro has held Italian citizenship since 2023.
