Led by Florida Atlantic University, in partnership with the Florida Department of Education, Broward County Public Schools, and Miami Dade College, a three-year, $5.7 million LEAP-AI initiative has been launched. The project aims to improve literacy and mathematics achievement in disadvantaged schools and to teach educators how to use artificial intelligence.

The Main Objective of the LEAP-AI Initiative

The Florida Atlantic University-led LEAP-AI initiative aims to elevate literacy and mathematics outcomes in disadvantaged schools. The project also prepares teachers and school leaders to effectively utilize artificial intelligence.

A Strong Interinstitutional Partnership

Bringing together key stakeholders such as the Florida Department of Education, Broward County Public Schools, and Miami Dade College, this initiative aims to enhance educational quality. Officials emphasize that this collaboration will directly support student success.

Focus Points in Broward Schools

Efforts focus particularly on 18 high-need schools within the Broward district. The project aims to address deficiencies in reading, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), mathematics, and instructional leadership.

Three Distinct Training and Development Tracks

Within the scope of the project, a two-year leadership track for administrators, classroom support for teachers, and micro-credentials are being offered. Additionally, a registered educator apprenticeship program is being operated to enable support staff and teacher candidates to obtain certification.

Shaping the Future Education Workforce

Florida Atlantic University officials state that the project provides regional educators with the tools needed for lasting success. The initiative prepares the future workforce by offering broad opportunities to both students and educators.

Expected Tangible Goals and Outcomes

At least 100 educators are planned to complete artificial intelligence and literacy micro-credentials. While 18 assistant principals complete the leadership track, 18 apprentices are participating in the certification program, and FAU will produce a guiding toolkit for other districts.
