Foam Treatment for Venous Vascular Malformation at Firat University Hospital
At Firat University Hospital, sclerotherapy was performed on a patient with venous vascular malformation in the right hip region due to surgical risks.
At Firat University Hospital, a foam treatment (sclerotherapy) method was successfully performed on a young patient with venous vascular malformation in the right hip region, avoiding surgical intervention that carried a high risk of bleeding.
Prof. Dr. Hanefi Yildirim, Head of the Department of Radiodiagnostics at Firat University Hospital, stated that venous vascular malformations are clusters of veins that can be seen in different parts of the body, from the brain to the soles of the feet, in all age groups, and that they can develop congenitally or emerge after trauma. It was reported that the sclerotherapy method was preferred for the young patient who had a malformation spreading over a large area in the sitting region of the right hip.
Within the scope of the treatment, it was reported that a 1% Lauromacrogol drug was slowly injected under DSA angiography guidance by entering through 4-5 different points with fine needles. Prof. Dr. Hanefi Yildirim stated that direct surgical intervention in such cases carries a high risk of bleeding and that patients may become suitable for surgical intervention following the applied foam treatment.
